Registration
A Childminder must by law be registered with Ofsted (Office of Standards in Education) and comply with the conditions of registration at all times.
I am currently registered to:
- care for no more than 4 children under 8 years; of these, not more than 2 may be in the early years age group, and of these, not more than 1 may be under 12 months at any one time.
Exceptions to the ratio requirements should only be made in emergency circumstances.
The home environment is checked to ensure that it meets the standards required and that it is suitable to care for children.
References and health checks are required as are Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) Disclosures on all household members over the age of sixteen.
Childminders are inspected by Ofsted and graded either-
- Unsatisfactory
- Satisfactory
- Good
- Outstanding
Childminders are also required to have public liability insurance.
The FIS (Family Information Service) keeps a record of all childminders who have completed the registration process.
