Learning and Play

Young children learn best in a safe, secure environment where they have the opportunity for investigation, first-hand experience, talk and play. Children should also have the “chance to build on their natural curiosity as learners”

I provide plenty of absorbing and stimulating activities and play opportunities for the children in my care so they can learn through meaningful play experiences.

Whilst it is my aim to offer a good balance of adult-led and child-initiated activities I happily allow children to take the lead and ensure that i provide non-interferring supervision during their free play.

I provide activities which support the six main areas of learning development:

  • Creative Development
  • Physical Development
  • Problem-solving, Reasoning and Numeracy
  • Communication Language and Literacy
  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development
  • Knowledge and Understanding of the World

I regularly refer to the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) when planning my activities. This ensures that I provide experiences which are not only age/stage appropriate but that will also help children progress towards their early learning goals.

I undertake observational assessments on a regular basis on each child in my care in order to ensure that I am meeting their individual needs.
